27th January 2012 Blashford Lakes

The January walk took place at Blashford Lakes. It was a bright sunny morning, with very little wind, although a little cold. Ten members enjoyed an interesting walk. We saw about 34 different species mainly water birds, of which the highlights were Potchard, Pintail, and Golden Eye Ducks.
Graylag and Canada Geese.
In the Woodland Hide we saw Lesser Redpoll, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Siskin, Nuthatch.
We also saw Grey Squirrel, Snowdrops, Mistletoe and Daffodil.
The memorable moment was listening to the Song Thrush singing in the sun.

December at Testwood

Six members enjoyed a walk to the hides at Testwood Lakes. Despite the threat of rain we did not get wet!!
We saw 26 different species of birds. The high lights being shellduck, shoveler, white fronted goose, and pochard.
And flora we saw mistletoe in the trees by the car park. A number of catkins which were distributing their pollen, as well as other not so far advanced. Also on a seasonal note we saw red holly berries still on the tree.
