August visit to Blashford Lakes

Twelve members and two young guests turned up at Blashford. For the first time we were without Mike's observational powers but we recorded about 25 different species. We seemed to be the only visitors in the nature reserve. The ground was dry and the weather though mainly grey skies was warm.
Amongst the birds noted were Gadwell, a splendid Kingfisher and a bird of prey, the Hobby. We discovered a Hornet but fortunately not the nest and numerous damsel flies. We spent less time in the hides and returned to the carpark by a different route close to the Salisbury Road where we saw the African type hut with its unusual feminine form on top. This as you can see attracted a lot of interest and later we saw the fish made out of recycled rubbish. Further on what must have looked good when first done a shape of a spitfire in stones. A good morning enjoyed by all.
