View of the lake from the car park.

Testwood Lakes

Eighteen U3A members turned up for the Testwood Lake bird walk. Most of us had never been here even though a few lived close by. Ample parking a short distance down a road that came off the Calmore Industrial Estate. Mike Adams once again led us skirting the first lake bathed in warm sunshine. As if saluting us we were treated to a fly past by a formation of geese. We made our way towards the furthest lakes taking good path through the trees to where a hide gave us a view of the water. Not many birds were evident but despite this we saw or heard 30 species during the two hour exploration. Coming back we almost stumbled over an hawk moth seeking sanctuary from our boots. Brian courageously picked it up and placing safely on the side of the path although someone voiced an opinion that the caterpillar had actually just left that side. A short stop at the visitor's centre before returning to the car park. An excellent morning.
