May Bird Watch

May 26th Friday 10am at Eyeworth Pond at Fritham

April's bird watch was at Ashlett Creek, Fawley, a pleasant haven for birds and wild life. The weather was nice especially after the previous occasions when we froze. Only eleven turned up as the holiday season has started. Despite the evidence of commercialism in the way of raised oil pipes from the jetty to the giant Calshot power station the birds were in their element and although elusive visually their evidence was signalled by the clamour of the bird song. A total of 37 different birds was recorded.

Note from Mike
Our birdwatching walk at Ashlett proved to be more of a bird listening session as many of the small birds such as the warblers were typically hard to view. Two Nightingales also were very elusive, although we were treated to some superb song at a few yards range, punctuated by a vociferous Cetti's Warbler determined not to be outdone.
Hopefully Irons Well ( nowadays called Eyeworth Pond ) on 26 May 2006 will reveal more visible birds.
Regards, Mike

Not very eco friendly but the birds liked the habitat

A case of I see no birds but certainly hear them
